Talents Sarajevo Participants Selected for 2017 Edition

The 11th annual Talents Sarajevo program will welcome 70 up-and-coming actors, cinematographers, directors, editors, film critics, producers and screenwriters from Southeast Europe and the Southern Caucasus during the 23rd Sarajevo Film Festival.

Participants this year hail from 14 of the 19 eligible nations, including Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey. A total of 303 eligible applications were received, with the largest number coming from Greece and Turkey. A significant increase in applications coming from Macedonia was notable, with 31 applicants this year compared to just four last year. Past years have seen the largest numbers of Talents selected from Romania and Turkey, a trend that sees a change this year, with 13 participants from Serbia and 10 from Croatia.

For the first time this year, Talents Sarajevo includes a program for editors. Three have been selected to go through bespoke mentorship in parallel with the other participants in the established programs.

Over the last several years, women have been extremely well represented in the program, a trend that we see continuing this year, with a total of 46 women and 24 men participating.

Talents Sarajevo 2017 offers participants access to a rich program of master classes, discussions, hands-on workshops and film screenings throughout the Sarajevo Film Festival. Led by renowned international industry experts, dedicated modules for each film craft, as well as the Pack&Pitch and Script Station project development labs, provide a tailored approach to mentoring and encouraging regional talents.

Founded in cooperation with the Berlin International Film Festival and the Berlinale Talents program, Sarajevo Talents has grown consistently over the past decade to become a significant regional hub for aspiring film professionals. In addition to bringing young filmmakers together for training sessions and networking opportunities, the platform also introduces participants to the work of established film professionals, informs them about current trends and issues in the industry, and introduces them to the international filmmaking community.
